Philip J. Garbo, 84, Army Veteran
Philip J. Garbo, 84, of Lorain died Friday morning, November 3, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital, in Cleveland following a several month illness.Mr. Garbo was born in Lorain and was a life long resident.
Mr. Garbo served in the U.S. Army, Military Police during W.W. II, and following that he was in the Merchant Marines.
He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church. He enjoyed amateur boxing and gardening.
Survivors include his brother Joseph and Dominic Garbo, both of Lorain. Sisters: Frances Tyler of New Port Beach, California, and Rosemary Hardesty of Avon Lake. Several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Josephine (nee Buonavita) Garbo, 2 brothers, Joseph who died in the 1924 Tornado and Anthony in 1998.
Friends may call the Reidy-Scanlan-Chambers Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 7, 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 10:30 a.m.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1305 East Erie Ave., Lorain, with the Rev. Christian Moore, Pastor officiating.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
