Leonard A. Sage, 87, Postal Carrier

Leonard A. Sage, 87, of Lorain died Tuesday morning, November 7, 2000 at Community Health Partners Hospital, West, following a short illness.

Mr. Sage was born in Lorain, Ohio and was a life long resident.

Mr. Sage was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 40 years. After retiring from there he worked as a Security Guard for Harshaw Chemical in Elyria for 5 years.

Mr. Sage was a member of St. Mary Church, Lorain where he served as a lector and was also an altar server.

He was a member of the Knights of St. John St. Mary's Commandery #281, in Lorain where he served various offices. He was the longest serving president. He was also the Ohio grand president, where he obtained his rank of Brigadier General. He was a Nobel Degree member, a Grand Master of the 4th Degree, and a Noble Grand Master of the 5th Degree. He was the original recipient of the King of the year award, and the only member to also receive the Jewel of Honor. He was also a member of the National Association for Letter Carriers #512.

Survivors include 2 sons: Douglas and Daniel, both of Lorain. 9 Grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Sister: Elvaretta Hering of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Seville F. (nee Hintz) 9-01-84. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Lavina (nee Savage), brothers Joseph and Phil Sage, and a sister, Virginia Day.

Friends may call at Reidy-Scanlan-Chambers Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway Ave., Lorain on Thursday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m., where the Knights of St. John St. Mary's Commandery #281 will have a Ritual at 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be Friday, November 10, 2000 at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass at St. Mary Church, 310 8th St., Lorain, with the Rev. Daniel O. Divis Pastor, officiating.

Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
