Doris M. Martin, 77, Nurse

Doris M. Martin (nee Hill), age 77, of Lorain, died Wednesday, November 8, 2000 at Lorain Manor Nursing Home, after a lengthy illness.

Born on May 31, 1923, in Marietta, Ohio, she moved to Elyria in 1955. In 1981, she moved to Lorain living here for 10 years before moving to Vermilion. She returned to Lorain in 1993 where she has been a resident since.

She graduated from Marietta High School in 1941 and went on to college to acquire her Licensed Practical Nurse degree.

Doris worked as an L.P.N at Algart Health Care in Cleveland from 1969 until 1989. She also worked for 15 years at Olmsted Manor Nursing Center in North Olmsted. She also worked at the Holly
Terrace Nursing Home, Vermilion, from 1986 until she retired in 1991.

She thoroughly enjoyed working her Seek-A-Word books as well as her ceramics. She worked as a volunteer at various other Nursing Homes and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1079, Elyria.

She is survived by her husband of 19 years, Charles A.; daughter, Shirley Lowther of Elyria; 5 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; brother: Paul Hill of Marietta, Ohio; 2 sisters: Betty Kemp of Marietta, Ohio and Mary Hill, of California.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Carl Hill in 1968 and Gladys E. Hill (nee Dennis) in 1957; 2 sons: Steven Baker in 1987 and Richard Baker in 1994; and brother: Carl D. Hill in 1945.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 10, 2000 from 1-2 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where services will begin at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
