Frank John Szekeres, Sr., 78, WWII Army Veteran

Frank John Szekeres, Sr., age 78, of Lorain, died on Monday, November 13, 2000 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, after a lengthy illness.

He was born on November 29, 1921 in Lorain, Ohio and has called Lorain his home ever since.

Frank graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1939.

He was a Veteran of the United States Army in WWII with the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operation.

He was an avid bowler and golfer and enjoyed playing poker at Vegas Nights.

Mr. Szekeres returned to Lorain and worked as a Steelworker for US Steel for 42 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of United Steelworkers Local Union #1104.

He was a member of St. Ladislaus Catholic Church and AMVETS Post 47, Lorain.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Evelyn (nee Beko), two sons; Frank J. Szekeres, Jr., of Elyria, and James D. Szekeres of Lorain, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Szekeres in 1922, Rose (nee Kovacs) in 1946, and a sister, Elizabeth Halasz in 1984.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 15, 2000 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2000, with mass following at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, 1412 East 29th Street, Lorain. Father Patrick Shields, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by AMVETS, Post 47, Lorain.
