William J. Horosz, 68, Army Veteran

William J. Horosz, 68, of Vermilion, died Thursday, November 16, 2000 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain following a lengthy illness.

Born February 27, 1932 in Lorain, he was a lifetime resident here, and had attended St. Mary High School.

He served 4 years in the U.S. Army in the Company C 501st Airborne Medical Platoon, and the 101st Airborne Division during the Korean War, and was awarded the Japanese Occupation Medal with 2 Bronze Campaign Stars and the Korean Service medal. Following this, he served 3 years in the U.S. Marine Cop., and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze stars, United Nations Service Medal, Japanese Occupation Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal.

Mr. Horosz worked in the Testing Laboratory of B.F. Goodrich Technical Center, Avon Lake, as an experimental operator, retiring after 35 years.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Lorain, and enjoyed reading, bowling, and playing golf.

He is survived by his son, David C. Horosz, of Elyria, a daughter with who he made his home, Mrs. Diane Stoler, of Vermilion, 4 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter, 2 brothers, Stephen Horosz, of Amherst, and Louis Kacso, of Oberlin, a sister, Mrs. Jane Fantin, of Englewood, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Astorino, in 19876, his parents, Stephen C. Horosz, and Yolanda (nee Schaeffer) Horosz.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 17th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, where services will be Saturday, November 18th at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon. The Polish Legion of American Veterans Post #38 will conduct military honors.
