Mary C. Popovich, 62, Cost Accountant

Mary C. Popovich, (nee Speer), age 62, of Huron, and formerly of Lorain, died on Sunday, November 19, 2000 at Firelands Community Hospital, Sandusky, following a lengthy illness.

Born June 8, 1938 in New London, Ohio, she moved to Lakewood, OH in 1965, and had lived there for 10 years before moving to Vermilion. In 1979 she moved to Lorain living there until moving to Huron 2 years ago.

Mrs. Popovich received her associate's degree from Lorain County Community College.

She had worked as a cost accountant at the Lorain County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. Prior to that she had worked in her family business for many years at Popovich American Motors Corporation Jeep Dealership in Vermilion. She had also worked for Donn Corporation, Westlake where she wrote computer programs for accounting and inventory purposes.

She was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Lorain, where she had served as a bingo manager for many years. She was also a member of the Vermilion Women's League.

She enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint, and was an avid computer user.

She is survived by her 3 sons: Myron "Mike" Jr., of Huron, Charles of Lakewood, and Stephen, of Macungie, PA, 2 daughters: Mrs. Carol Barney, of Sussex, WI, and Mrs. Mary Santaella, of Cleveland, 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandsons, brother: Joseph Speer, of Topeka, KA.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years: Myron "Mike" Popovich in 1996, and parents: Edwin and Helen (nee Schuchard).

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 21, 2000 from 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where a parastas service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will begin on Wednesday, November 22, 2000 at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 2711 W. 40th Street, Lorain. Rev. Fr. James J. Batcha, pastor, will officiate.

Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
