Louis J. Berki, 80, Army Veteran

Louis J. Berki, age 80, of Lorain, died on Monday, November 20, 2000 at Community Health Partners Hospital, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.

He was born on February 29, 1920 in Lorain and has lived here his entire life.

He served in the United States Army as a Sergeant in World War II. He was a small boat
operator stationed in India supplying the Flying Tigers Squadron. He was awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, and the WWII Victory Medal.

He worked for 42 years as a mill wright in the conditioning department at US Steel, retiring in 1982.

Louis was a member of St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, Lorain, a member of the United
Steelworkers Union Local #1104 and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans #20 of Lorain.

He enjoyed gardening, and jewelry making.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elvira (nee Trelay), son: Joseph, of Elyria, daughter: Nancy Berki, of Lorain, 2 grandchildren, 5 nephews and 1 niece.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Michael Berki in 1950 and Elizabeth Berki (nee Buzas) in 1976, and brothers: John and William.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 24, 2000 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. A rosary service will be held on Friday at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 a.m. mass at St. Ladislaus Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. Patrick Shields, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
