Frank A. Martin, 71, Army Veteran
Frank A. Martin, 71, of Vermilion died Wednesday, November 22, 2000 at his home after a short illness.Born in Lorain, he was a Vermilion resident since 1974.
He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War.
He graduated from Ashland College and received a master's degree from Kent State University. He started his career in education in 1956 at Columbia High School as a teacher, football coach, basketball coach and track coach. He went to Clearview High School where he was a teacher, football coach and became Junior High School Principal then High School Principal. He worked at Brookside High School as principal before coming to Vermilion High School in 1974 where he was the Principal. After retirement in 1988, he worked in real estate and went to Firelands and Brookside High Schools as assistant principal.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, AMVETS Post 22, Vermilion, the Ohio Education Association, the National Education Association, Ohio Retired Teachers Association, and Lorain County Retired Teachers Association. He was a former member of the Vermilion Boat Club and enjoyed boating and sports.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Martin (nee Scott) to whom he was married 47 years; a daughter, Kathryn Barklow, Hilliard, Ohio; a son, Michael S. Martin, Vermilion; 4 grandchildren; and a brother John Martin of Lorain. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Martin; a sister, Ann Barite and his parents, John and Mary (nee Filak) Martin.
Friends may call Friday, November 24th from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Prayers will be said in the funeral home Saturday, November 25th at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion. Father Steve Blum, Pastor, will officiate. Burial in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, Ohio.
