Jim "Apple" Kelly, 55, Ford Motor Co. Retiree
Jim "Apple" Kelly, 55 of Sheffield Lake, died Sunday morning December 10, 2000 at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital Cleveland, following a lengthy illness.Mr. Kelly was born August 15, 1945 in Mobile, AL. He lived in Mississippi before moving to Ohio 36 years ago. He has resided in Sheffield Lake for the past 30 years.
He retired from Ford Motor Co. (Ohio Assembly Plant) in Avon Lake in 1995.
He was an active United Auto Workers Local 2000 member. During the 35 years with the UAW he was elected District Committeeman in 1975 and 1978. Bargaining Committeeman in 1984 and 1987, Delegate Sub 2 National Ford 1984 through 1990, Vice President Sub 2 1987, Gen program coordinator 1987 through 1990, UAW Standards Representative 1988 through 1990 and served as acting Vice President.
He was a member of the UAW Planning Committee that obtained the VX54 expansion in 1988, that created 1,500 new UAW jobs for Local 2000.
He enjoyed traveling especially to Las Vegas, fishing, playing cards and being with his family and friends, especially his two grandchildren that he loved very much.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Judy A. (nee Oravec) Kelly, son: Jim Kelly of Louisville, KY, daughter: Judy Lynn Dobbins of Sheffield Lake, 2 grandchildren, brother: Gary D. Kelly of Elyria and a sister: Janice D. Chick of Glouster, Mississippi.
He was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy M. Kelly and a sister Brenda Joyce.
Friends may call at Reidy-Scanlan-Chambers Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain on Monday, December 11 from 7-9PM an don Tuesday December 12th from 3:30-5PM and 7-9PM.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, December 13th at 11:00AM in the funeral home with the Rev. Bill Tumbleson officiating.
Burial will be at Ridgehill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
