Helen A. "Cokie" Szakats, 71, Hungarian Pastry Maker

Helen A. "Cokie" Szakats, (nee Krumpak), age 71, of Lorain, died on Monday, December 11, 2000 on her late husband's birthday at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, following a lengthy illness.

Born on July 13, 1929 in Lorain, she was a lifelong resident here. She was a 1947 graduate of St. Mary's High School, Lorain.

She worked as an assembler at Mascon Toy Company for 10 years, retiring in 1972.

She was a member of Ss Cyril and Methodius Roman Catholic Church, and the Croation Catholic Union Branch 17.

She was known as a great Hungarian pastry maker, and also enjoyed her grandchildren's sporting events, as well as her animals.

She is survived by her sons: Donald of Amherst and Dale of Freehold, NJ, 3 grandchildren, brother: John of Los Angeles, CA, and George of Cleveland, sister: Terry Tomasik, of Cleveland.

She was preceded by her husband of 52 years: Andrew A. on September 23, 2000, brother: Smokey Krumpak in 1946 and sister: Mary Jane Betchker in 1994.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 14, 2000 from 4-7 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, where a parish rosary service will be at 4:30 pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 15, 2000 at 9:30 am in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am mass at Ss Cyril & Methodius Roman Catholic Church. Rev. Paul Krajnik, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
