Charles J. Barnes, 74, WWII Veteran

Charles J. Barnes, age 74, died on Tuesday, December 12, 2000 at Community Health Partners in Lorain.

Charles was born on May 18, 1926 in Lorain, OH and resided there all of his life.

He was a graduate of Lorain High School, and had been a fireman and engineer for the Lake Terminal Railroad for 36 years.

He was a veteran of the Navy serving during WWII and was a member of the Destroyer Escort Sailors Assn. And enjoyed bowling, golf and horse racing.

Charles is survived by his two daughters, Nancy Beck, of Norwalk and Karen Schneider, of Avon Lake, his two sons, Thomas Barnes of Lorain and Charles R. Barnes of Amherst and 8 grandchildren.

He was preceded by his wife, Norma, in 1993, brother, Robert and parents, Charles and Ethel (nee Hemminger) Barnes.

Visitation will be Thursday from 6PM-9PM in the Schwartz, Spence & Boyer Home for Funerals located at 1124 5th St., Lorain.

Funeral services will be Friday, December 15th at 10AM in the funeral home with the Rev. James McKenzie, Pastor of the Emmanuel and Faith United Methodist Churches.

Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
