Alice Svete Creagan, 87, Travel & Insurance Agent
Alice M. Svete Creagan, 87, died December 15, 2000 at Community Health Partners after a brief illness. She was born in Lorain on September 18, 1913 and lived the majority of her life in Lorain.Until recent years, she ran Svete Travel Bureau & Insurance Agency in Lorain which was founded by her father in 1905 and is now operated by her son, Gregg Surovjak.
Mrs. Creagan attended Sts. Cyril & Methodius School and graduated from Lorain High School with the class of 1931B of which she was secretary. She was also a graduate of Dyke Spenserian College.
As a youth she was an avid tennis player and in the 1930's was a Lorain City Women's Champion.
She and her late husband, James, M., who she married in 1988 were wold travelers and visited all continents except Antarctica. They particularly liked to cruise and on their last trip, circumnavigated South America.
Mrs. Creagan was a past member of the Insurance Woman of Lorain County, Lorain Altrusa Club, the American Society of Travel Agents, a patron of the Cleveland Orchestra and a member of St. Mary's Church in Lorain.
She is survived by children, Gregg S. Surovjak of Vermilion, Jane E. Smidebush of Kokomo, Indiana and Drew A. Surovjak of Port Clinton, Thomas Creagan of Upper Arlington, Ambassador James F. Creagan of Rome, Judith Brown of San Antonio, David Creagan of Philadelphia, brother Edward C. Svete of Concord and sister Evelyn Tuths of Long Island, NY, twenty-one grandchildren, many nieces & nephews and one great grand daughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Creagan in 1999, by her first husband, Emil A. Surovjak in 1963, her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Joseph A. Svete and Leo C. Svete, and sister, Joanne Lorince.
There will be no visitation. A private memorial service will be held for the immediate family. The family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
