Madalene S. Cozard, 89, Librarian
Madalene S. Cozard, 89 (nee Sherman) of Lorain died on Friday, December 15, 2000 at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home in Lorain, OH after a brief illness.Mrs. Cozard was born on March 17, 1911 in Port Dixson, NY, moving to Lorain as a child.
She was a graduate of Lorain High School in 1928, Oberlin College in 1935 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in library science from Case Western Reserve University in 1936. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Lorain.
Mrs. Cozard was a retired librarian, working at Lorain Public Library, Lorain High School and St. Joseph Hospital's Library.
She was an avid cat enthusiast, traveled extensively in Europe prior to WWII, and chronicled her life in a journal. She loved books.
She is survived by her close friends and primary care givers: Glenn and Linda Robinson of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Cozard, who died shortly after they were married, during WWII in occupied Japan in 1946 and her parents: Rev. Charles R. and Julia (nee Childress) Sherman.
Friends may call at Schwartz, Spence & Boyer Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain on Tuesday, December 19, 2000 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
Funeral services will be held on December 19, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. David E. Wheeler, pastor of the First Congregational Church officiating.
Mrs. Cozard will be buried at Springfield Cemetery in East Springfield, PA.
