Fred Pena Jr., 61, Ford Motor Company
Fred Pena, Jr. age 61, of Lorain, died on Friday, December 22, 2000 in his home, in the care of New Life Hospice, Lorain, following a brief illness.Fred was born on December 19, 1939 in Mercedes, TX. He has been a resident of Lorain since 1945. He attended Lorain High School.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. He was a pipe fitter for the Ford Motor Company, Avon Lake Plant, for 27 years. He was also a member of the United Auto Workers Local 2000, where he was the Skilled Trade Chairman from 1984-1996.
He played Class B Fast Pitch Softball, teams including Angie's Coachlight, Amvets Post #47, and Westgate Grill, winning League Championships from 1972-1975. He also held the team's Home Run, and Batting Average titles. He enjoyed traveling with his family to Las Vegas several times per year, and watching the Cleveland professional sporting events.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Eva Pena (nee Inchaurregui); 3 sons: Gilbert, of Lorain, John, of Amherst, and Fred III, of Amherst; a daughter: Francine Connors, of Middlefield, OH; and 12 grandchildren; brother: Alfred, of Sheffield Lake, 2 sisters: Lillian Muskovich, of Lorain and Grace Velasquez, of Houston, TX.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred Pena in 1983, and Elizabeth Pena (nee Deshotel), in 1979; a brother William, in 1998; and sister Lydia Camacho, in 1999.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 26, 2000 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain. Services will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2000 at 8:45 a.m. in the funeral home and 9:30 a.m. mass at Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain with Father William Thaden, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
