Conrad Pashkewich, 81, WW II Veteran
Conrad Pashkewich, 81, of Lorain, died Sunday, December 24, 2000 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home, Lorain, following a brief illness.Born December 26, 1918 in Marianna, PA, he came to Lorain as a child. He was a 1936 graduate of Lorain High School where he played varsity football and baseball. He attended Finley College on a football and baseball scholarship. While he was attending college, he was drafted in the US Army, serving in the 505th Signal Regiment during World War II.
He worked as an armature winder in the electrical shop of Lorain Works U.S. Steel, retiring in 1983 after 40 years of service.
He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, Lorain, and the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104. He enjoyed sports, reading the newspaper and following the stock market.
Surviving is his wife of 47 years, Elizabeth (nee Emerick), son Dan of Lorain, a daughter Mrs. Candy Gaudry of Lorain and 1 granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nick Pashkevich, in 1967 and Pauline (nee Yockaloff) Pashkevich, in 1958, his brothers, US Navy Fireman First Class William Pashkewich, who died in 1943 while held as a prisoner of war in the Japanese prison camp of Hoten Camp, Manchuria, after the fall of Corregidor, during WW II, Peter Pasky, in 1992 and George Pashkevich in 1986 and a sister, Helen Burk in 1996.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 28, 2000 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, 2238 East 32nd Street, Lorain. Very Rev. Archpriest Basil Stoyka, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
