Ruth E. Griffin, 90, Owner, Scotty Brand Fruit Farms
Ruth E. Griffin (nee Ladrach), 90, of Vermilion, died Thursday, January 4, 2001 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center, after a brief illness of pneumonia.Born January 22, 1910 in Brownhelm Township, Ohio, she was a lifelong Vermilion resident.
She owned and operated with her first husband, Lewis K. Todd, the Scotty Brand Fruit Farms of Vermilion. She was a member of the Vermilion United Church of Christ Congregational where she belonged to the Abigail Circle. She volunteered for Meals on
Wheels for 20 years, and Second Harvest Foodbank of North Central Ohio for many years. She was a member of the Vermilion Grange, Lorain Harmonettes, and Aural Club. She was a 4-H advisor and she helped with PTA and school activities. She loved gardening.
She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn K. Wheelock of Huron; son, Gene L. Todd of Vermilion; 5 step daughters, Ruth Beth David of Renton, Washington, Pauline Smithberger of South Bend, Indiana, Mary Ellen Stanley of Circleville, Ohio, Beatrice Brogan of Hilliard, Ohio and Dorothy Jeske of Mesa, Arizona; 2 step sons, George H. Griffin of Upland, CA and Harry E.Griffin of Sanford, North Carolina; 19 Grandchildren; 29 Great Grandchildren and a sister, Fern Haughwout of Bradenton, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lewis K. Todd in 1958, second husband, Virgil in 1995; son, Millard Todd; sisters, Christine N. Niggle and Lillian Lund; brothers, Maurice, Howard and Warren "Bud" Ladrach and her parents, Emanuel and Louise (nee Bauman) Ladrach.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. The Reverend Wendell Brooker, pastor of the United Church of Christ Congregational will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
