Steve Stanislaw, 79, Army Veteran

Steve was born on August 18, 1921, in Allison, PA, and has been a resident of Lorain for 60 year.

He was a World War II, U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1942-1946. He attained rank of Technician 5th Grade, and he received medal including: European African Middle Easter Theater Ribbon, one Bronze Star, American Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory, and a Good Conduct Medal.

He was a Pipe Fitter for U.S. Steel for 33 year, retiring in 1983. Prior to this, he worked at B & O Railroad, American Shipyard, and White Roth.

He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, volunteering for their Bingo and Soup Kitchen. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Lorain Council # 637, St. Ann's Lodge #75 of the Union of Poles in America, Holy Name Society, and Polish Sokols Branch 889 of the Polish National Alliance. He also belonged to the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104

He enjoyed woodworking, traveling the world with his wife and children, gardening, and being especially proud of his tomatoes.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Cecelia (nee Krokos); son: Stephen, of Freehold, NJ; daughters: Pat Gram, of Aurora, OH, and Chris Rose, of Camden, DE; 6 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Thomas and Anna (nee Bilcak) Stanislaw; 4 brothers: Joseph, Robert, George, and John; and 3 sisters: Helen Wolckoff, Margaret Poyle, and Anna Stanislaw.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 9, 2001, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Ave., Lorain, where the Holy Name Society will conduct a Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m. Services will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2001, at 9:45 a.m. in the funeral home, and 10:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church, with Fr. Kevin Shemuga, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20 will conduct full military honors.
