John G. Arty, 80, Army Veteran
John G. Arty, 80 of Lorain died on Tuesday, January 09, 2001 at Golden Acres Nursing Home in Amherst, OH following a brief illness.Mr. Arty was born on February 11, 1920 in Lorain and was a lifelong resident. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Mr. Arty was a veteran of the US Army during World War II. He was a retired mailman for the US Postal Service.
Mr. Arty was an avid Cleveland sports fan, following both the Browns and the Indians. He is survived by his daughter: Marsia Arty, two sons: Thomas and Donald Arty all of Lorain, 3 grandchildren, sisters: Irene Davis and Alice Zemanek both of Lorain, and Margaret Kovacs of Indiana.
Mr. Arty was preceded in death by his wife: Clara (nee Sobocinski) Arty on July 29, 1997, and his parents: John & Margaret (nee Takacs) Arty.
Friends may call on Thursday, January 11, 2001 from 7-9 p.m. at the Schwartz, Spence, & Boyer Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th St., Lorain, OH. A Christian Wake service will be held at 8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be on Friday, January 12, 2001 at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain, OH with Rev. John Elmer, associate pastor as celebrant. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.
