Nicanor Ruiz, 80, Retired Steel Worker

Nicanor Ruiz, 80, of Lorain, died Thursday January 11, 2001 in Oberlin Medical Center, Oberlin following a lengthy illness.

He was born February 11, 1920 in Patillas, Puerto Rico. He came to Lorain in 1950.

Mr. Ruiz retired from United States Steel Co Lorain-Cuyahoga Works as a Machinist in the number 4 seamless mill in 1981. He worked there for 19 years.

He was a member of the Templo Emmanuel Assembly of God. He was a guitarist in the church band.

Mr. Ruiz was a member of the United Steel Workers local 1104, Lorain. He enjoyed playing the guitar.

Among the survivors is his wife of 46 years Benedicta Ruiz (nee Velazquez) and a son Jimmy Ruiz of Lorain and two Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Isabel and Bacilia (nee Diaz) Ruiz and six brothers.

Friends may call Sunday 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, Inc., 1783 East 31st Street, Lorain, Ohio.

Funeral services will be Monday 10:00 AM in the funeral Home.

Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst Township.
