Martin J. Harjar, 66, Nordson Design Engineer

Martin J. Harjar, 66, of Vermilion, died Thursday, February 15, 2001, at Elyria Memorial Hospital after a 4 year illness.

Born January 31, 1935 in Elyria, he had been a Vermilion resident for 17 years having lived in Colorado for 5 years.

He was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired as a Design Engineer from Nordson Corp. where he had worked for 20 years. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Huron, the Vermilion AMVETS Post 22 and enjoyed restoring old cars and trucks.

He is survived by his wife, Anne (nee Nicholson) to whom he was married 21 years; 3 daughters, Marla Ritter, Upper Sandusky, Natalie DiSalvo, Medina and Alaina Harjar, Medina; son, Martin John Harjar, Jr., Elyria; stepdaughters, Margaret Brooks, Amityville, NY, Mary Elizabeth Smith, Redondo Beach, CA, Kathryn Connelly, Andover, Minnesota, Alicia Villalobos, Santa Monica, CA; stepson, James Grose, Kent, OH; 15 grandchildren; brother, Howard Harjar, Elyria; and his mother, Suzanna Harjar, Elyria. He was preceded in death by his father, Martin Harjar and grandson, Nicholas Mayer.

Friends may call Saturday from 6-9 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 120 Ohio Street, Huron, Ohio. The Reverend Gene Smercina, Rector, will officiate.
