Elmer G. Falkenberg, 83, Avon Lake

Elmer G. Falkenberg, 83, of Avon Lake, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2001 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain due to complications from Parkinson's Disease.

He was born April 12, 1917 in Cleveland and was a graduate of West Tech High School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army's 338th Infantry as a staff sergeant in Europe, where he spent seven months as a prisoner of war.

Elmer was employed as a furniture refinisher for Halle Brothers in Cleveland, retiring after 42 years of service. He was a past member of the American Legion Post 21, Avon Lake. He enjoyed fishing and boating, reading, classical music and woodworking.

Mr. Falkenberg is survived by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn (nee O'Neill), who he married January 19, 1946 at St. Clements Church in Lakewood. He is also survived by his daughter, Kathleen Barnes (Harry) of Avon Lake, and two grandchildren, Brian and Cassie Barnes. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustav and Anna (nee Hage) Falkenberg.

Friends may call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 163 Avon-Belden Road, Avon Lake, on Tuesday, March 6th from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral services followed by burial at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon will be private. Memorials may be forwarded to a charity of choice.
