George J. Antifinger, 81, Chemical Engineer
George J. Antlfinger, 81 of Avon lake, formerly of Milwaukee Wisconsin, passed away, Saturday, March 10, 2001 at St. John West Shore Hospital, Westlake, following a lengthy illness.Mr. Antlfinger was born, June 2, 1919 in Milwaukee, WI and has lived in Avon Lake for the past 45 years. He was a chemical engineer with BF Goodrich, retiring from the Avon Lake plant in 1984 after 43 years of service. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering.
Mr. Antlfinger was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Avon lake, a member of the Alumni Associating of the University of Wisconsin, a life member of the American Chemical Society. In 1994, Mr. Antlfinger was inducted in to the Inventors Hall of Fame, Akron, OPH for holding 12 patents for his work in latex. He enjoyed reading, visiting libraries and museums as well as music and gardening.
Besides his wife of 52 years, Joanne P. (nee Quinn) he is survived by his daughters Dr. Ann Antlfinger of Omaha NE and Mary Antlfinger-Norton of Salisbury MD and a son Johann J. Antlfinger of Springfield VA. Other survivors include grandsons, Brett and Lee and a brother Stephen Antlfinger of Brookfield WI. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth (nee Bittner) and a brother John Antlfinger.
Friends may call at the Busch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 163 Avon-Belden Road, Avon lake from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13th. Prayer service will be at the funeral home, Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 32929 Lake Road, Avon Lake at 9:30 a.m. Father Timothy O'Connor of the Church will officiate.
