John E. Javor, 83, WW II Veteran
John E. Javor, 83, of Lorain, died on Wednesday, March 28, 2001 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain following a lengthy illness.He was born on June 13, 1917, in Lorain; where he has been a lifelong resident.
He served in the United States Navy as a machinist mate 2nd class during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Albert T. Harris.
He had worked as a machinist at US Steel for 41 years, retiring in 1976.
Mr. Javor was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter, Lorain. He also was a member of the United Steelworkers Union Local #1104, Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20, where he served with the Honor Guard for Veteran's burial services, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #451, Lorain County Canician Club, St. Peter's Senior Citizen's Club, and the Hungarian American Citizens Club.
He was an avid stamp collector and loved dancing.
His is survived by his 3 sons, Thomas of Aurora, Colorado, Kenneth of Mentor, Ohio, Gregory of Bay Village, 1 daughter: Janice Dow, of Plymouth Minnesota, 7 grandchildren and sister, Mary Mandros of Richardson Texas.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 37 years: Marie (nee Mihelic) Javor in 1984, parents: George and Mary (nee Neczc) Javor, and brothers: George, Joseph, and Bert.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 1, 2001 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 2, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Michael Williamson, associate pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy, Chapter #20 will conduct full military honors.
