Catherine M. Meyers, 79, Woman of Year Honoree
Catherine M. Meyers (nee Murray), 79 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Thursday morning, March 29, 2001 at Golden Acres nursing Home, Amherst following a lengthy illness.She was born April 9, 1921 in Sutersville, PA. Raised in Sutersville, she graduated from West Newton High School, with the class of 1940. She resided in Sutersville till 1974 then moving to Shorewood, Wisconsin, then to Clearwater, FL, and has been a resident of Amherst since 1997. She has resided at Golden Acres Nursing Home for the last three years.
Catherine was a graduate of the Pittsburgh Academy. She was employed at the Union National Bank of Pittsburgh for 23 years. She was a member of the American Safe Deposit Association and served as their secretary for 10 years. The American Safe Deposit Association honored her as Women of the Year in 1970. While living in Clearwater, FL, she was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her sisters, Loretta Rocco of Belle Vernon, PA, and Margaret Mansfield of Lorain; three nieces; three nephews; four grandnieces; and five grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Harry William Meyers on April 15, 1999; her parents William K. and Barbara (nee McCann) Murray; and a grandniece, Amanda Polanovsky in 1998.
Friends may call Sunday 2-3:30 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst, where funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Wilke, Pastor of Trinity Evangelical Free Church, Amherst and Richard Fischer, officiating. Burial will be on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Ridge Hill memorial Park, Amherst Township.
