Alfred Horak, 93, Pipe Threader

Alfred Horak, age 93, of Orangevale, California, died on Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at Sherwood Health Care Center, Sacramento, California following a illness of one month.

He was born on June 16, 1907 in Gratz Austria moving to Lorain in 1914. In 1999, he moved to California to reside with his daughter.

Mr. Horak was employed at Lorain Works US Steel for 45 years, retiring in 1972 as a pipe threader in the galvanized department.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Lorain. He also was a member of the Untied Steelworkers Union Local #1104 and Golden Agers Pensioners Club.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling with the Golden Agers at the Slovak Club and watching the Cleveland Indians. He was proud of the fact that he attended the first and last baseball games at the old Indian's Stadium.

He is survived by his son: Carol Horak, of Sheffield, Ohio, daughter: Virginia Ortiz, of Orangevale, CA and 4 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years: Mary (nee Seday), parents: Fred and Marie (nee Falletitsch) Horak, brothers: Fred, Louis, Oscar, Gustav and Otto, sisters: Marie Rosso and Katherine Danielson.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Lorain. Rev. Fr. David Novak, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain is in charge of the arrangements.
