Joseph J. Barone, 91, Preventative Maintenance Coordinator

Joseph J. Barone, 91, of Sheffield lake, formerly of Buffalo, NY, passed away, Tuesday, April 3, 2001 at his home, following a brief illness.

Mr. Barone was born August 24, 1909 in Buffalo, NY and moved to Sheffield Lake in 1958. He worked for the Ford Motor Company at the Lorain Assembly Plant from 1947 until his retirement as a Preventative Maintenance Coordinator in 1971.

Mr. Barone attended the Hearst Academy Business School, Buffalo. Also while in Buffalo he was a member of the National Guard and the Night of Columbus. While living in Sheffield Lake, he was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. He served on the Sheffield lake Park Board, the Sheffield Lake Auxiliary Policy Force, was a member of the Lively Avon Lakers and the Men's Lorain Senior Fellowship. He enjoyed traveling and reading history and the study of language.

His wife, Palma "Pam" (nee Migliore) whom he married April 6, 1940 passed away August 24, 1994. He is survived by a daughter Camille Sopata of Sheffield Lake, grandchildren, Anthony Barone, Pamela Chira, Mark Sopata and Michele Sopata, great grandfather of 4 and a brother of Nina Hosser of Hopewell Junction, NY. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard, brothers, John, Anthony, Vincent, Frank and Samuel and parents Horace and Carmella (nee Ceresi) Barone.

Friends may call at the Buch-Burmeister Family Chapel, 163 Avon-Beldon Road, Avon Lake on Friday, April 6, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Prayer service at the funeral home will be Saturday, April 7 at 9:15 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 521 Harris Road, Sheffield Lake, at 10:00 a.m. Father Stephen Shields of the Church will officiate. Interment will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery, BrookPark.
