Ruth A. Snyder, Nurse
Ruth A. Snyder (nee Schmidt), of Amherst Township, died suddenly Saturday, April 7, 2001 at her residence after being stricken with an apparent heart attack. Mrs. Snyder was born in Lorain and had been a resident of Amherst Township since 1975.She had been employed for 35 years as a licensed practical nurse at the Lorain Convalescent Home, a care facility founded by her mother Donnabelle Schmidt and operated in conjunction with her brother Eddie Schmidt and sister: Betty Fedor. She retired in 1980 following its sale.
A member of Episcopal Church of Redeemer (Lorain) she was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post #1079 of Elyria. An avid gardener, she was a self-proclaimed animal rights activist and was well known for her willingness to adopt stray animals and to provide temporary care and shelter for them until they could find permanent homes.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years: John J. "Jack", a son: Jack of Elyria Township, 2 grandchildren, brother: Eddie Schmidt of Elyria Township, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents: Albert and Donnabelle (nee Fields) Schmidt, Sr., a brother Albert Schmidt, Jr. and her sister: Betty Fedor.
Friends may call Tuesday, April 10, 2001 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Steph Sedgewick, Priest in Charge of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
