George Higgins, 80, World War II Veteran
George Higgins, 80, of Woodville, Texas, formerly of Lorain, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at the Woodland Heights Medical Center, Lufkin, TX.George was born on May 1, 1920 in Smithfield, WV. He lived in Lorain for 29 years and had been a resident of Texas for the last 12 years. He was a World War II, United States Army Veteran, particiapting in the battles of Rhineland and Central Europe. He attained rank of Private First Class. He received the Good Conduct, Bronze Star Medal, American Thater Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon.
George worked as a school bus driver in West Virginia, and came to Lorain to work as a mill right, in the BOP Shop of Lorain Works U.S. Steel for 11 years. There he was a member of the Local #1104.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years: Sylvia M. (nee Lowe) Hggins; 2 daughters: Cathy Aguilera of Lorain and Juanita Stackhouse of Canton; 3 sons: Harold of WV, Kenneth of Elyria, and Tim of OK; 16 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 3 brothers: Tom of NY, Glen of WV, and Charlie of Weelsville, OH; and 1 sister: Flossie Higgins of Cleveland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and 3 brothers.
Committal will be on Friday, August 31, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in Elmwood Cemetery,
