Catherine A. Balmert, 68, Foster Mother
Catherine A. Balmert (nee Martlock) - 68 of Avon, formerly of Cleveland, passed away, Thursday, April 19, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, following a lengthy illness.Mrs. Balmert was born, December 3, 1932 in Cleveland and has lived in Avon for the past 47 years. Mrs. Balmert a Lakewood High School graduate, worked for the Catholic Social Bureau as a Foster Mother. She would take care of children in her home from the time they were born, until they were adopted. She had taken care of over 150 children during her time as a Foster Mother from 1969-1984. Her children stated that she had lived to take care of children. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Avon.
Mrs. Balmert's husband of 30 years the late Frederick John Balmert, Jr., passes away in 1984. She is survived by a daughter Debra (Pete) Polovich of Avon, Frederick, III of Avon, Joanne (Dean) Miller of Lakewood and Arthur (Kathy) of Avon. Other survivors include 6 grandchildren. Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Catherine (nee Ellsworth) Martlock and a sister Joyce Davis.
Friends may call at the BUSCH-BURMEISTER FAMILY CHAPEL, 32000 Detroit Rd., Avon from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00pm Sunday, April 22. Prayer service at the Funeral Home, Monday, April 23 at 9:15am followed by the Mass of Christian Burial, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 33601 Detroit Rd., Avon at 10:00am.
Fr. John Misenko of the church will officiate. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memory Garden, Avon.
