Earl E. "Gene" Reinhardt, Jr., 80, of Lorain died on Thursday evening, May 3, 2001 at Community Health Partners West in Lorain unexpectedly.Mr. Reinhardt was born on October 26, 1920 in Memphis, TN moving to Lorain in 1958. He was a graduate of Christian Brothers College and attended to the University of Tennessee at Memphis. He was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Lorain and had been a member of the Men's Club. He was also a former member of the Avon Lake Kiwanis Club.
Mr. Reinhardt was a US Army veteran serving during WWII. In 1976 he retired as a paint supervisor with the Ford Motor Company - Lorain. He founded the Reinhardt Dairy Queen on Erie Avenue in 1975 and was still very active in the family business.
He and his wife maintained a home in Naples, Florida where he was a member of the Royal Palm Country Club.
Mr. Reinhardt enjoyed golfing, bowling, and gardening. He was a Kentucky Derby horse race enthusiast.
On Jan. 3, 1942 he married Therese M. (Miles) Reinhardt, who survives. Also surviving are his three daughters, Therese Haines, Elizabeth Konya and Jean M. Reinhardt all of Lorain, his son, John C. Reinhardt of Lorain, 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, his sister: Adele Achramovitch of Tonawanda NY and his brother: John L. Reinhardt of Memphis TN.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Earl E. and Florence S. (nee Peeke) Reinhardt Sr. and an infant brother.
Friends may call at Schwartz-Spence & Boyer Home for Funerals, 1124 5th Street, Lorain on Sunday, May 6, 2001 from 5:00-8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on May 7, 2001 at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a 9:30 Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Church, 310 W. 8th Street, Lorain, OH 44052 with Rev. Daniel O. Divis, pastor as celebrant.
Earl E. Reinhardt will be buried at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, with full military honors provided by the American Legion Post #30 of Lorain.
