Ronald Gene Sweeney, 46, Enjoyed Fishing With His Children

Ronald Gene Sweeney, Sr., age 46, of Lorain, died on Thursday, May 10, 2001 at his residence, following a sudden illness.

He was born on February 28, 1955 in Welch, West Virginia, moving to this area in 1959.

He was a 1973 graduate of Clearview High School.

Mr. Sweeney was employed as a welder for Lakewood Manufacturing Company in Westlake for the past 2 years. He was formerly assistant manager at the Amherst Pizza Hut for 4 years. Prior to that he worked as a service manager for Gene's Gas Station in Pineville, West Virginia, for 6 years.

He was a member of the Mount Olive Freewill Baptist Church, Lorain. He also was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous.

He enjoyed fishing with his children.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years: Cheryl Ann (nee Rangel), 3 sons: John A. Sweeney, Ronald G. Sweeney, Jr., and Thomas J. Sweeney, all of the home, 3 daughters: Alicia F. Sweeney, of Phoenix, AZ, Veronica J. Saunders, of Birmingham, OH, and Sheila K. Sweeney of the home, 4 grandchildren, 3 brothers: Rick Sweeney, Ken Sweeney, and Michael Sweeney, all of Lorain, 2 sisters: Robin Sweeney and Tammy Petrey, both of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Starlin and Daisy Sweeney, and sister: Sheila Sweeney.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 13, 2001 from 6-8 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday, May 14, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home, Rev. Howard Carroll, pastor of Mount Olive Freewill Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
