Richard W. Youngless, 72, Supervisor
Richard W. Youngless, 72 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Friday afternoon, May 18, 2001 at New Life Hospice Residential Center, Lorain following a two month illness.Born August 26, 1928 in Amherst, he graduated from Amherst Central High School in the class of 1946 and has been a lifelong resident of Amherst.
An employee of the Nordson Corp. in Amherst for over 40 years, he retired as supervisor of the Maintenance Department in August of 1993. After his retirement he enjoyed working part-time at Willow Hardware in Lorain. For over 50 years, Richard operated a small handyman business out of his home.
He loved woodworking, was an avid hunter, and was a Cleveland Indians baseball fan. A member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Amherst he served for two years as a Trustee and was also a member of the Church Council. He was a member of the CHI-RHO couples club at the church, the Senior Citizens Of Amherst and a member of the Amherst Eagles Aerie #1442. Richard enjoyed camping with his family and had been active in the National Good Sam Club, JAY_CEE he served as the Junior Chamber of Commerce Treasurer for five years; it was during this time he received Amherst Richard Zilch Man of the Year Award. He served for five years as Scout Master for boy Scout Troop #427 in Amherst and for two additional years as assistant Master of Boy Scouts.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years Shirley M. Youngless (nee: Outland); His son Mr. Michael W. Youngless of South Amherst; his daughter Mrs. Ronald (Patricia) Thompson of Lorain; Seven grandchildren; and his sister Mrs. Delores Gullett of Clearwater, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Rose (nee: Berger) Youngless.
Friends may call Monday 2-4 and 7-9 at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave.; Amherst. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. from St. Peter United Church of Christ, 582 Church St., in Amherst. The Rev. Edward O. Hale, will officiate. Burial will be in Crownhill Cemetery, Amherst.
