Blance Charlotta Wittmer, 83, Sunday School Teacher

Blanche Charlotta Wittmer (nee: Baker), 83 years of age, and a resident of South Amherst, passed away, May 22, 2001 at Amherst Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born July 21, 1917 in Carmichaels, PA. She was raised in Pennsylvania until moving to Amherst in 1955 and has been a resident of South Amherst since 1971.

She was a housewife and mother.

She was a member of Westside Baptist Church but was attending North Lake Missionary Baptist Church and Birmingham Baptist. She served as a Sunday School teacher for 40 years. She loved children and going to church. She enjoyed both flower and vegetable gardening and loved camping and fishing.

Survivors include her husband Wayne Wittmer of 45 years; her son Ron Poyle of Lorain; step son Mr. Donald Wittmer of West Salem, OH; her daughters Mrs. Virginia Salva of Lorain; Mrs. Jane Harless of Elyria; and step-daughter Julie Shawver of Norwalk, OH; 23 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and 17 great great grandchildren; her sister Edna Duckworth of Youngstown.

She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Hannah Agnes (nee: Guesman) Baker; her son Robert Poyle in 1952; her brothers Roy Baker in 1953, David Baker in 1971 and Silas Baker in infancy as well as her infant sister Ann Baker.

Friends may call Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave.; Amherst. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the North Lake Missionary Baptist Church, 323 North Lake St. South Amherst. The Rev. Carson Fraley, Pastor, will be officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Missionary Fund of a church of the donor's choice.
