George A. Super, 83, World War II Veteran
GEORGE A. SUPER, age 83, of Amherst, died Saturday March 31, 2001 at Cleveland Metro Health Medical Center following an extended illness. He was born September 26, 1917 in Lorain and had moved to Elyria at the age of 5; he had been an Amherst resident since 1950He was a graduate of Elyria High School with the class of 1935-B and later graduated from the Elyria Business College.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps. Serving as a sergeant with the Base Unit Air Transport Command. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and American Theater Ribbon.
He was employed as a manger for the A & P Tea Company at various stores throughout Lorain County including Oberlin, Amherst, Sheffield Lake, Elyria, and Lorain. He retired in 1979 following 46 years of service with the company.
He was an active parishioner of St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church, and the Greek Catholic Union Branch #77. He was also a member of the Lorain Senior Fellowship.
His hobbies included gardening, reading, working crossword and word puzzles, as well as playing with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years: Margaret (nee Kocak), sons: Kenneth G. Super, of Lyme, New Hampshire, Dennis M. Super, M.D. residing in Shaler Heights, and Randall J. Super of Cove, Arkansas, 11 grandchildren, and a brother: Robert J. Super of Grafton.
He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Anna (nee Sim) Super, and by brother: Clarence, James, and Gerald.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway where a Parastas service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by a Divine Liturgy at St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church - 2711 West 40th Street - Lorain. Rev. James Batcha, pastor of St. Nicholas will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery - Lorain.
