James P. Sapienza, 99, Enjoyed Fishing
James P. Sapienza, 99 of Lorain died on Friday, June 8, 2001 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain, OH following a long illness.Mr. Sapienza was born on January 1, 1902 in Pittsburgh, PA and moved to Lorain in his early 20's. He was a veteran US Army during WW II stationed in the Panama Canal serving as a minesweeper. He retired in 1962 from the former National Tube as a crane operator. He had been previously employed at the American Ship Yard in Lorain. He was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Lorain.
He was a former Democratic Party Committeeman, enjoyed fishing and was known for his sense of humor.
Mr. Sapienza is survived by his two sons, James E. Sapienza of Vermilion, OH, and Jon F. Sapienza of Hubbard, OH, his caregiver and granddaughter: Denise Leonard of Amherst, OH, 7 other grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and his sister Lillian of the Los Angeles, CA area.
He is preceded in death by his wife: Ella J. Sapienza on August 7, 2000, his parents: Joseph and Rosalee Sapienza, his daughter Jacqueline Emerick, and his son Paul Lewis Sapienza, brothers: Joseph, Samuel, Anthony, Leo and Thomas.
Friends may call at Schwartz-Spence & Boyer Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, OH on Sunday, June 10. 2001 from 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 11, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home followed by an 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Church, 310 E. 8th Street, Lorain, OH with Rev. Daniel O. Divis, pastor officiating.
James P. Sapienza will be buried at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain, OH.
