Raymond T. Mitchell, 82, Avid Golfer

Raymond T. Mitchell (a.k.a. Superstar), 82, of Vermilion died Sunday, June 10, 2001 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center in Lorain. He was born April 19, 1919 in Cleveland and had lived in Avon for many years before moving to Vermilion.

Mr. Mitchell was in an engineer battalion in World War II and received three bronze stars and a Purple Heart. He was a past commander of the Avon V.F.W. Post 7035 and the Vermilion American Legion Post 397. He was employed over twenty years for Dairyman's, Sheffield; and was the starter at Saw Mill Creek Golf Resort for seventeen years until June of this year. He was an avid golfer.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, June (nee Alexander) Mitchell; a sister, Rita Yancu of Parma; three sons, Thomas and Lawrence of Avon and Richard of Cleveland; a daughter Judith Hagedorn of Seffner, Florida; step-son Larry Polling of Lakewwod; two step-daughters, Sheri Mahoney and Terry Ann Saltis both of Vermilion; fifteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Martha (nee La Vere) Mitchell, three brothers and five sisters.

Friends may call at the BUSCH-BURMEISTER FAMILY CHAPEL, 32000 Detroit Rd., Avon from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday. Services will be held at the funeral home Wednesday, June 13 at 11:00 a.m. Fr. John Misenko, pastor of Holy Trinity Church, Avon will officiate. Burial will follow at the Avon Canter Cemetery, Avon, where V.F.W. Post 9871, North Ridgeville will conduct military honors.
