Donald Woodrow Campbell, 84, Engineer

Donald Woodrow Campbell, 84, of Westlake, died Monday, June 11, 2001 at Harborside Health Care Center, Westlake, from complications of Parkinson's Disease.

Mr. Campbell was born on December 4, 1916 in Cleveland, OH. His family moved to Avon Lake when he was seven years old and he resided in the community until 1999 when he entered Harborside Health Care in Westlake.

Mr. Campbell graduated in 1935 from Avon Lake High School where he had been a member of the basketball team. After graduation, he went to Colorado as a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). Upon his return to Avon Lake, he was employed as an engineer by Cleveland Illuminating Company (First Energy).

Mr. Campbell served in the United States Army in World War II. Among various posts, he was stationed in Central and North Africa, CIC, 619th Division and in Recepe, Brazil with 44th Division. He was a member of the American Legion since 1945.

He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Avon Lake. He also enjoyed his affiliations with several area Scottish heritage groups. He had memberships with the Royal Scottish County Dance Society, The Clan Campbell Society and the Scottish Historic and Research Society. He had also been a longtime member of the Western Reserve Historical Society.

Don is the beloved cousin of Wilma (Billie Jean) Malloy and her husband Edward, and their children: Renee, Daryl, Keith and Ellen.

He was preceded in death by his parents William Percival and Carrie Barbara Campbell.

Friends may call at the BUSCH-BURMEISTER FAMILY CHAPEL, 163 Avon-Belden Rd., Avon Lake, Wednesday, June 13, 2001 from 3:00-5:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be at Calvary Baptist Church, 32607 Electric Blvd., Avon Lake, Thursday, June 14, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Gary Schroeder of the Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Park Cemetery.
