John David Gornall, 78, Machinist
John David Gornall, 78, of Lorain, died at his home on Tuesday, June 12, 2001 in Lorain, OH unexpectedly.Mr. Gornall was born on August 7, 1922 in Lorain, OH and was a lifelong resident. He was a graduate of Lorain High School and a veteran of WW II serving in the Army. While in the service, he earned the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, and the WW II Victory Medal.
He is a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lorain. He was also a member of the Polish Club, National Rifle Association, United Steel Workers Union Local #1104, Polish Legion of American Veterans, and a life member of the American Slovak Club.
Mr. Gornall was retired in 1983 as a machinist with US Steel after 42 years of service.
He enjoyed crossword puzzles.
Mr. Gornall is survived by his wife of 54 years, Valerie (nee Timko) Gornall, his two daughters: Judith Gornall of Lorain, OH and Grace McClung of Englewood, CO; his seven sons: Charles W. Gornall of Lorain, OH, David A. Gornall of Charlotte, NC, Gregory Gornall of Pueblo, CO, John V. Gornall of San Antonio, TX, Lawrence Gornall of Lorain, OH, Michael Gornall of Amherst, OH, and Timothy Gornall of Lorain, OH; 17 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; his sister: Mary Bulger of Westlake, OH; his brothers: Kenyon Gornall of Oberlin, OH and Victor Gornall of Avon Lake, OH.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Thomas and May (nee Leech) Gornall; his brothers: Charles Gornall and Thomas Gornall.
Friends may call at the Schwartz-Spence & Boyer Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, OH on Thursday, June 14, 2001 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on June 15, 2001 at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Church, 310 W. 8th Street, Lorain, OH, with Rev. James Becherer officiating.
John David Gornall will be buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain, OH with full military honors provided by VFW Post #451 of Lorain.
