Elder David Slone, 66, Pastor
Elder David Slone, age 66, of Sheffield Township, pastor of Little Edna Old Regular Baptist Church, died on Monday, June 18, 2001 at Cleveland Clinic Hospital of injuries sustained in an accidental fall in Pikeville, Kentucky on June 6, 2001.Born on January 20, 1935 in Pikeville, Kentucky and came to Lorain from there in 1956. He was a graduate of Hellier High School in Pikeville and studied at Pikeville College.
He was a straddle truck driver for Lorain Works US Steel for 31 years, retiring in 1985. Prior to this, he was a coal miner in Pikeville.
Besides pastoring Little Edna Church in Sheffield Township, he was also an assistant pastor of True Vine Old Regular Baptist Church in Akron. He was also a member of United Steelworkers Local #1104.
Surviving is his wife of 44 years: Linda (nee Tucker); one son: Gary David Slone, Sr. of Lorain; 3 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and two sisters: Sophia Slone of Pikeville, Kentucky and Liza Kindrick of St. Clair Shores, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Owen Slone and Pearlie (nee Thacker), brothers: Dan, Benny, Mitchell, and Clarence, and sisters: Nancy Chaney, Florence Slone and Mercy Chaney.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 20, 2001 beginning at 4:00 p.m. and all day Thursday at the Little Edna Old Regular Baptist Church, 5160 Bond Avenue, Sheffield Township. Evening services are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 22, 2001 at 9:30 a.m. in Little Edna Church with Elder Hobart Justice, assistant pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, Ohio. The Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain, is handling the arrangements.
