Betty J. Shoop, 79, Avid Boater


Betty J. Shoop (nee Fertal), 79, of Avon Lake and formerly of Parma died Tuesday, June 26, 2001 at Bradley Bay Health Center, Bay Village due to complications associated with a long battle with Myasenthia Gravis. She was born May 27, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio and moved to Avon Lake from the Parma area 25 years ago. Betty was employed as a purchasing director for White Consolidated Industries, Cleveland, retiring 16 years ago after forty years of employment. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Avon Lake, and was a long-time member of the Edgewater Yacht Club. She enjoyed her home, the Cleveland Indians, and was an avid boater.

She is survived by a son, Robert R. of Avon Lake; a grandson, Jonathan; her sister Lois Russell of Parma, and nieces and nephews. Her husband, Robert E. Shoop (1998) and her parents, James and Elizabeth (nee Warner) Fertal preceded her in death.

Friends may call at the BUSCH-BURMEISTER FAMILY CHAPEL, 163 Avon-Belden Road, Avon Lake from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2001. Prayer services will be held at the funeral home Friday, June 29, 2001 at 9:15 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church, 32929 Lake Road at 10:00 a.m. Fr. Timothy J. O'Connor will officiate. Burial will follow at Elmhurst Park Cemetery, Avon.
