John "JJ" Murray, 83, Pressman

John "JJ" Murray, 83, of Lorain, died Friday, June 29, 2001, following a brief illness.

Mr. Murray was born February 21, 1918 in Norwalk, OH and resided in Lorain. He was a graduate and life long member of St. Mary School and Catholic Church in Lorain.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp., as a Staff Sergeant of the 354th Fighter Squadron, 355th Fighting Group stationed in England during World War II.

He was employed as Pressman by Ohio Service Printing until it's closing, then continuing on at Lorain Printing Company until his retirement.

He was an enthusiastic supporter of high school sports and a member and strong advocate of A.A. for 49 years. John enjoyed family gatherings, walking in the woods, fishing, gardening, library trips and woodworking.

Survivors include a daughter Mrs. David P. (Brenda) Snell of Wakeman, grandson, David John Snell of Birmingham, sister, Julia Donohue of Avon, Brothers, Edward Murrary and Cornellius J. Murray both of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his wife Helen R. (nee Simsic) Murray, a son Bryan T. Murray who was killed in action in Viet Nam in 1968 and a brother Peter Murray.

Friends may call 2-4 and 6-9 on Sunday, July 1, 2001 at the Riedy-Scanlan-Chamber Funeral Home 2150 Broadway Ave., Lorain.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 2, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church 310 8th Street, Lorain, with the Rev. Cornelius Murray and Rev. Lawrence Martello, concelebrating.

Full military honors will be conducted by the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20, Lorain.
