Robert J. Mittendorf, 70, Area Supervisor - Ohio Edison
Robert J. Mittendorf, age 70, of Lorain, passed away Monday, July 2, 2001 at the Saturday, March 3, 2001 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain following a 1 year illness.Mr. Mittendorf was born March 11, 1931. He was an Area Supervisor for Ohio Edison retiring in 1994. He was also a Volunteer Fireman for 35 years serving Black River Township and Amherst. He retired as Captain in 1987 from the Amherst Department. He is a Naval Reserve Veteran serving from 1948 to 1967.
Mr. Mittendorf attended First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lorain. He was a member of the Church Council, Usher, Property Committee and Commodities Committee at Church, and Amherst Golf League.
He was an avid camper belonging to the Buckeye Travelers and Lamplighters camping clubs. He had been a Boy Scout Volunteer. Mr. Mittendorf enjoyed woodworking and woodcarving.
Mr. Mittendorf is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy (nee Coleman), sons: Robert M. of Eagen, MN, Joel D of Columbus, GA; daughters: Lori A. Gale of Wakeman, OH, Jill M. Hawkinberry of Amherst, OH; 9 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter, 3 step-grandchildren, 5 step-great grandchildren, sister: Norma Ruebel of Miami, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Julia (Nather) Mittendorf and brother Harold Mittendorf.
Friends may call the Reichlin-Colley Funeral Home, 2920 Broadway Ave., Lorain on Thursday, July 5, 2001 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, July 6, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6th and Washington Ave., Lorain with Rev. Dr. Linwood H. Chamberlain Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Ridge Hill Memorial Park Amherst Twp.
