C. Donald Brady, 72, Biology Teacher

C. Donald Brady, 72, of Avon Lake, formerly of Oberlin, passed away of cancer Monday, July 23, 2001 at his sister's home in Lakewood. Mr. Brady, known as Don, was born November 19, 1929 in Connellsville, PA and had lived in Avon Lake for the past 30 years.

Mr. Brady was a Biology Teacher and began his career in 1959 with the Firelands School District, in 1965 he moved to the North Olmsted City School System and retired from there in 1987. He served in the US Navy on an aircraft carrier from 1948-1952. He earned his Bachelor in Education Degree from the California State College, Pennsylvania in 1957. In 1959 he received his Masters of Education degree from the University of West Virginia. In 1961 he continued his education at Indiana University studying bacteriology.

Mr. Brady was a member of the Ohio Education Association, the Lorain County Education Association, North East Ohio Teachers Association and the National Association of Biology Teachers. Mr. Brady played clarinet and was active in area Dixie Land Music Associations. He enjoyed tying flies, fly fishing and canoeing.

His wife: Mary Ellen (nee Egbert), whom he married January 12, 1972 passed away December 23, 1999. He is survived by a daughter: Mary C. (Brady) Rosenthol, of Andover, MA; stepson: John F. Nixon of Fairfield, CA; 3 sisters: Lois Samsel of Lakewood, Adrienne "Cherry" Kenny of Pittsburgh, PA, and Barbara Glover of Morgantown, WV; and 2 grandsons. Besides his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents: Francis M. and Adrienne (nee Soisson) Brady and a brother: Fr. Francis M. Brady.

Friends may call at the BUSCH_BURMEISTER FAMILY CHAPEL, 163 Avon-Belden Road, Avon Lake on Thursday, July 26, 2001 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. A prayer service will be at the funeral home Friday, July 27, 2001 at 9:15 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 32929 Lake Road, Avon Lake at 10:00 a.m. Fr. Timothy O'Connor of the Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Westwood Cemetery, Oberlin.
