Madelyn Lyn Metzger, 83, Active in the Community
Madelyn Lyn Metzger, 83, of Lorain, died on Sunday, July 29, 2001 at Kendal at Oberlin in Oberlin, Ohio following a long illness.Lyn was born on March 2, 1918 in Toledo, Ohio and had lived in Lorain since 1946. Mrs. Metzger graduated from Miami University in 1940 with a degree in Business Administration and was subsequently employed by the Owens-Illinois Glass Company prior to her marriage to G. Herbert Metzger in 1942.
She is a member of the First Congregational Church in Lorain, served on the Board of Trustees from 1958-1964, as a deaconess from 1965-1984, Board of Christian Education and Family Life, as well as many other boards and committees of the church.
She was active in the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, YMCA, Life Member of Lorain Community Hospital Auxiliary beginning in 1966 and served as president 1978-1980, served on the Lorain Community Hospital Board of Trustees, active in the Palace Civic Center, American Association of University Women, Delta Gamma Sorority, University Club, President of Colony Club, President of Wimodaughsis from 1984-1985, Lakeland Medical Center Board of Trustees beginning in 1978.
Mrs. Metzger received the American Association of University Women's State Award for Membership Achievement in 1974.
Lyn is survived by her daughter, Barbara Bowen of Louisiana; two sons: David Metzger of Amherst and Douglas P. Metzger of Arizona; and 4 grandchildren.
Mrs. Metzger is preceded in death by her husband: G. Herbert Metzger on August 1, 1995 and her parents: Thomas E. and Bertha Grace (nee Schaub) Moore.
A memorial service will be held on July 31, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at Kendal at Oberlin in Oberlin, Ohio with Rev. Dr. David E. Wheeler, pastor of First Congregational Church, officiating.
