Charles Winkler, Jr., 79, Enjoyed Bingo

Charles Winkler, Jr., 79, of Lorain, died on Monday, July 30, 2001 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain, OH following a brief illness.

Mr. Winkler was born on September 28, 1921 in Lorain, Ohio and was a lifelong resident of Lorain. He was a graduate of Lorain High School and was a US Navy Veteran serving during WWII. He earned the Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 stars, Asiatic Pacific Medal with 7 stars, Good Conduct Medal, and American Area Victory Medal.

Mr. Winkler was a retiree of the City of Lorain, street department working as a truck driver. He was also a life member of VFW Post #451 and a member of American Legion Post #30. He enjoyed bingo, bowling, and fishing.

He is survived by his four daughters: Darlene Bolyard of Lorain, Carol Davis of New London, Shirley Wright of North Carolina, and Sharon Zioleck of South Amherst; 9 grandchildren; sister: Mary Lou Maynard of Lorain; and Brother: Paul Winkler, Sr. of Lorain.

Mr. Winkler is preceded in death by his parents: Charles Sr. and Anna (nee Cottle) Winkler and a great grandchild.

There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held on August 1, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon, OH. Full military honors will be provided by VFW Post 451 of Lorain.
