Stella Conry, 86, Enjoyed Spending Time with Grandchildren
Stella Conry (nee Szarek), 86, of Amherst, passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2001 at New Life Hospice Residential Center, Lorain following a brief illness.Born July 8, 1915 in Lorain where she was raised and lived until her marriage. She has been a resident of Amherst for 61 years.
Her profession was that of a homemaker. During World War II, she volunteered for the Red Cross. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst, where she was active in the Legion of Mary, the Altar & Rosary Society, and the Catholic Golden Agers. She was also active in the PTO of St. Joseph School and served as a Den Mother for Girl Scouts. Stella enjoyed gardening, fishing, golfing with her husband, reading, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include sons: John R., Jr. of Richmond, VA and Martin J. of Amherst; daughters: Patricia Hendrickson of Lexington, KY, Mary Conry of Amherst, and Julie Conry Ganzfried of Columbus; and eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband o 58 years: John R. Conry in 1998; son: Thomas Conry in 1981; parents: Joseph and Catherine (nee Kufel) Szarek; and brother: Theodore Szarek in 1965.
Friends may call Friday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Closing prayers will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst with Rev. Fr. Lawrence Martello officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Amherst.
