James Gove, 78, World War II Veteran
James Gove, 78, of Lorain, died Sunday, August 26, 2001 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph following an illness of three months. He was born August 10, 1932 in Lorain and had been a life-long resident of the city.A World War II U.S. Army Veteran, he served as a PFC and was assigned to the 395th Infantry Regiment (99th Division) as a rifleman; he served in central Europe, the Rhineland, and the Adrienne's and participated in the battle of the Bulge. He was the recipient of the American Theater Service Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a charter member of Amvets Post #47 - Lorain.
Mr. Grove was employed as an assistant supervisor with the United States Postal Service in Lorain; he retired in 1976 following 26 years of service.
Survivors include his sisters: Ruth Dandrea and Doris Godles both of Lorain, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway - Lorain. Funeral services are tentatively scheduled for Wednesday at a time to be announced.
The family suggests memorials in his name to either New Life Hospice - 5255 North Abbe Road - Elyria, Ohio 44035 or to the American Cancer Society - 43099 North Ridge Road - Elyria, Ohio 44035.
