Charles V. Romer, 80, Tool & Die Maker
Charles V. Romer, 80, of Lorain, died on Tuesday, August 28, 2001 at his residence while under the care of New Life Hospice following a short illness.He was born on December 24, 1920 in Toledo and came to Lorain with his parents as an infant.
He graduated from St. Mary's High School, Lorain in 1938. He served in the United States Air Corps as a 2nd Lt. During World War II.
He was a tool and die maker for General Motors, Elyria for 33 years, retiring in 1982.
Charles was an active memberof St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. He was also a member of the UAW Local #780, enjoyed gardening, woodworking, swimming at the YMCA, working with leaded glass, teaching reading classes at the Lorain Public Library, and making rosaries for the missions.
He is survived by his 2 sons: Richard of Wichita, Kansas and Charles of Columbus; 3 daughters: Barbara Gatten of Amherst, Carol Hallgren and Linda Robinson, both of Lorain; 11 grandsons; 2 granddaughters; and 4 great granddaughters.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Beatrice (nee Carney) Romer in 1999 and parents: Victor C. and Nell (nee Murphy) Romer.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 30, 2001 from 7-9 p.m. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home on Friday, August 31, 2001 with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Fr. Regis Schlagheck, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
