Leslie H. Becker, 87, World War II Veteran
Leslie H. Becker, 87, of Lorain, died Thursday, August 30, 2001 at Community Health Partners Hospital, West, following an unexpected illness.Mr. Becker was born November 24, 1913 in Amherst, Ohio living in the Lorain area all his life.
Mr. Becker served in the US army with the Company B 21st Infantry Regiment, 24th Division, during World War II at Luzon: Western Pacific from May 27, 1942 - December 31, 1945.
He received the American Theater Ribbon; Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon w/ 2 Bronze Stars; Philippine Liberation Ribbon; Good Conduct Ribbon, Purple Heart and the Victory Medal.
He retired as a Millwright from US Steel, Lorain.
Survivors include his daughter: Marilyn Farmer of Elyria; granddaughters: Denis Sanchez of Lorain and Debra Matotek of Amherst; and 3 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Margaret (nee Smole), April 28, 2000, and his parents: Jacob and Louise (nee Woltke) Becker.
Friends may call Saturday from 4-7 p.m. at the Reidy-Scanlan-Chambers Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway Ave., Lorain.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, with full military honors by the DAV Louis Paul Proy Chapter #29, Lorain.
