Jesse Franklin Call, 82, World War II Army Veteran
Jesse Franklin Call, 82, of Lorain, passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2001 at the Villa Camillus in Columbia Station following a lengthy illness.Born May 20, 1919 in Irondale, Ohio, he was raised in Irondale and Monroe, Michigan and graduated from Monroe High School. He had been a resident of Lorain since 1952.
He served in the US Army during World War II with the 145th Engineer Battalion. He was a part of the initial move during the offensives on D-day at Omaha Beach. He also fought in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He received the American Theaters Service Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Lorain and the St. Lads Club, Lorain, where he served as a trustee.
Survivors include daughters: Patricia Ann Bulloch of Elyria, Nancy Louise Mishak of Lorain, and Susan Marie Smith of Brownhelm; eight grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; and her sister: Emma "Virginia" Richardson of Weirton, West Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years: Louise (nee Dusek) Call on August 5, 1993; parents: Benjamin Franklin and Ida Viola (nee McClain) Call; and brother: Albert Call.
Friends may call Monday 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Closing prayers will be held Tuesday at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. with funeral services to follow at 10:00 a.m. with full military honors by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church; corner of Rt. 57 and Homewood Dr., Lorain, with the Rev. Fr. Thomas Smith officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
